Blacktip Shark
Carcharhinus limbatus
Uncommon: only occasionally seen except where spear
fishing may be going on or during massive schools of
herring, silversides and other small schooling fish.
This individual showed up during one of these times
at the far left shoreline of Hawksnest beach very
late in the day in very turbid water.
The
white streak visible on the flank is a
distinguishing characteristic. Other distinctive
markings are black tips on pectral, ventral
dorsal fins, while the anal fin is white. Most
common - 5-6 feet in length.
