Blunt Spine Brittle Stars

Ophiocoma spp.

There are over 20 species of Ophiocoma brittle stars. Arms can be up to to 6 inches long. Arms with blunt spines, mottled cream and brown. Disc usually dark brown but often mottled. The spines of these brittle stars have been found to be more for feeding and locomotion than for protection.
