Bucktooth Parrotfish
Sparisoma radiansA small member of the parrotfish family of Scaridae, only reaching about five inches in length. Their ability to change colors and patterns very quickly makes them almost impossible to spot in their turtle grass, sea bed environment. When snorkeling over a turtle grass sea bed go slowly and you will notice them skimming over the tops and through the blades of grass. At first, one or two, then a few more until they come into focus and then you will notice schools of them. When there is clear water, as the sun is going down, it's is a great time to watch for them. The sun reflects off their bodies when they move and makes them easier to spot.
