Chestnut Moray Eel
Enchelycore carychroaThe Chestnut Morays seem more shy than other Moray Eels. During the same time of early evening the Green Morays are stretching their necks out of their day lairs by a third of their body length, while the Chestnuts are barely sticking their heads out. The Chestnut Morays in these pictures were in about 5 feet of water. They are the smallest of the morays in this region, only reaching about a foot in length. They have rows of white spots on their jaw lines and have an arched jaw, which is a characteristic of only one other Moray, the Viper Moray, which is uncommon in this area. I think most of these are juveniles.
