Coney
Cephalopholis fulva
The Coney is a member of the Sea Bass/ Grouper
family. Several of their color variations make them
very easy to recognize. They can be reddish
brown to yellow, or red or brown on top, white on
the bottom, dark with yellowish sides or a mottled
phase, but always with small contrasting color spots.
They have an unique lower lip with two to four black dots.
(see juvenile photos )
Their anal fins and tail fins have a blue edging on
them.
