Cubera Snapper GALLERY
Lutjanus cyanopterusCubera Snappers are the most skittish snappers. They are quick to skedaddle once alarmed. They could be confused with Schoolmasters, but Cuberas have a more squared body profile, less front to back spinal slant and never yellow fins like the Dog Snapper or Schoolmasters. They also have much thicker LIPS than the other snappers. All of these pictures were taken at a depth of not more than 5 feet. The body bars can fade or darken. These are all juveniles averaging 12-20 inches in length. At maturity they will retreat to deeper water and reach a possible length of 3-5 feet.
