Geometric tunicate
Botryllus sp.These geometric shaped tunicate s are one of several of the Botryllus genus. The large center holes are the shared excurrent opening for the 10 or so individuals whose incurrent siphons are the small holes on the outside of the center. Because the species are similar species that look alike, a possitive identification cannot be made without microscopic examination. They are found occasionally, either as a single small group or areas where several groups are in close proximity to each other. Look in shaded areas, just under a rock, in a crevase or other protected areas. In water as shallow as 1 foot to much deeper depths.
