Gray Snapper GALLERY
Lutjanus griseusA fairly common snapper seen in mangroves, and also known as the Mangrove Snapper, along rocky shorelines and around reefs. Their color varies from very pale gray, to a darker reddish brown color (which makes them easily confused with the Dog Snapper) They often display dark bands that run from their lips up through their eye and just past upper gill plate cover. Often school in small groups, but can be seen swimming alone. The grand-daddy snappers can grow to 2 feet long. Like other snappers, they have a large pair of front teeth that are front incisors. Frequent depths of 2 to 60 feet.
