Heavenly Sponge

Dysidea etheria

This Blue/purple sponge is found in a variety of environments. Find them attached to mangrove roots, and other bays with rocky shorelines that have a lot of sediment  or on the floor of sea grass beds. This beautiful sponge has a network of incurrent areas and widely spaced excurrent openings. Most are no more than a few inches across.  Found at depths around 2-4 feet. Colors blue, lavender.
