Inshore Lizardfish

Synodus foetens

Also known as the Galliwasp. Much less common than the  Sand Diver Lizardfish , but belong to the same family. The main difference is that the eight diamond markings on the sides (which have pale centers) do not join the saddle bars on the back, and the top of the gill slit has no dark spot. Uncommon.  Normally, they bury themselves in the sand by vibrating their bodies so completely you can't see them. They can grow to over a foot long, you'll find little 3-4 inch ones in shallow, sandy beach areas.
