Redband Parrotfish GALLERY
Sparisoma aurofrenatumThe Redband Parrotfish is one of the two species of which identification during their intermediate phase are very hard to distinguish. The Redfin/Yellowtail Parrotfish is the other. You can be fairly certain you are seeing a Redband Parrotfish if it presents a white patch on it's back right in front of the tail. If you have the patience to watch a Redband in it's intermediate phase, the phase between juvenile and adult you will see that their ability to both change their color and markings is so intense that you think you are looking at a completely different fish.
