Spinyhead Tube Blenny

This tiny tube blenny can be found alone or a scattered few in one area . Found at depths of 3-8 feet.  They are only about an inch long. Look down along rock sides for a little head poking out of vacated tube worm holes.  I think some of the smaller ones pictured here are juveniles or perhaps females without the spiny forehead. Very similar to the Secretary Blenny, (Same genus) and live and generally act the same way. Both are "tube blennies" which means rather than living on the sea floor like many other blennies, they take up residence in abandoned tube worm tubes and in sponge holes. These are very tiny fish, less than an inch long. Look for them at depths of 3 feet or more. They have eye sockets that can turn in almost any direction.  They will dart out of their tubes to grab a passing food particles from the water stream.
