Spotted Moray Eel
Gymnothorax moringaThe second largest species of Moray Eel found in these water. Most often seen are the juveniles that are maybe 2-2.5 feet in length. Adults grow ad long as
4 feet and probably inhabit deeper water. Like other Morays they don't seem to mind being approached. The opening and closing of their mouth is for respiration.
I have noticed an increase in the rate of respiration as I move closer so I can only assume it does cause them a bit of stress.
Their nostril tubes are not used for breathing,
but for scent tracking.
